Black/disappearing textures? Some bizarre news ...

Recommended Posts

Hi Sean,Just a question, how did you remove the Soundmax card? I thought the Soundmax was on board sound and as such couldn't be physicaly removed.Pete
I just pulled it off the mini PCI-Audio slot that it was attached to. It is very small and uses a mini PCI slot not like the regular PCI-E slots. If you have an Asus mobo with the SoundMax audio, you probably have the same thing I did. Maybe because it was removable it's not considered onboard? I don't know. I though it was considered onboard. It came from Asus and you can't buy them as far as I know. Either way, putting it in the trash and installing an aftermarket card, was like giving me a new sim that not only works better, but also sounds better. I am now hearing sounds from engines, switches, and the environment that I hadn't heard before in FSX. I'm quite astounded by all the new sounds I am now hearing.

I was experiencing the disappearing textures problem with every PMDG product. Switching to DX10 mode resolved all of them, I can alt+tab as much as I want and nothing happens. Unfortunately there were some well known problems with lights - the navs and beacons were invisible and landing lights didn't illuminate the runway. Strangely, installing an older NVidia driver (182.50) helped...

Guys im experiencing it with the lvl d 767 as well. All complex aircraft seem to be affected, i changed the sound setting down to 8000 hz with onboard sound. So far its better no texture loss. But i tried dawn, dusk has been my issue. So ill keep testing. Now ill add that i used drivers for my onboard sound, and maybe the generic win7 drivers were also the problem. IM not sure though. Im guessing everyone with this problem has windows 7 64 bit?As for why, it makes no sense at all. I tried xp compatibility and did not get the texture problem but im not sure if the sound was the fix or the compatibility mode or non of the above, ill try individually and a dusk into night flight.I hate this part of flight simming, its anoying to have to deal with this stuff and takes away from the hobby.EDIT:dx 10 preview has been off since the day i installed fsx.

Any suggestions for the ASUS MOBO users who cannot go below 44100 hz? I have a P5N-D with Realtek ALC883 8 -Channel High Definition Audio CODEC. Realtek or Win7 generic drivers dont help. And there doesnt appear to be anything to remove as in the case of the SoundMax situation. Wondering if a generic add-on soundcard would be the answer.

Hi Allen,A new sound card, or any sound card would take a burden off the CPU without a doubt. However it does not cure the problem. See my post above. As far as your Motherboard goes. You should be able to disable the onboard sound in your bios on boot. (Press Delete as system is starting). It's in the Advanced tab which is one over to the Right, in Onboard devices I believe. That is the normal way for Asus since that's all I have ever used.

I am now just saving up for a new i7 system with 6gb ram, I already have a fast video card. nvidia 285... hoping that solves my problem. I guess the 747 is pushing the fs limit of textures on screen, I read that the JS41 had that issue when they added ice and windshield rain effects, people were losing cockpit textures. So there must not be anything pmdg could do except a rework of the virtual cockpit to make it less graphic intensive. Thats too bad, I have given up on fsx until I can afford a new system because every flight now has some sort of crash. Its my favorite hobby too. So disappointing

Getting an i7 and 6gb ram won't resolve the issue. I have an i7 and 12gb ram, vista x64 in my system and the plain fact is that when FSX and vista reaches around 3.4 -3.8gb ram it will start to drop textures. Don't know why, I've seen it on numerous occasions - we just have to face the fact that FSX is not fully compatible with Vista. If the FSX team were still going this would be fixed by now.....but hey, we just have to deal with it and not overload the system with too many sceneries, track IR's, Airports and complex aircraft. This is not going to go away!!....Roll on Flightsim 2012 from Aerosoft..........

There was a tweak to the fs9.exe file that changed it to work with more than 3gb ram, I wonder if that same change can be made to the fsx.exe file? I will have to go look at what it was exactly, it used some edit program to change 1 setting

If you are running SP2 or Acceleration your FSX executeable can use more than 3GB of RAM (it needs no modification).

Dont worry its not a permanent fix i have had so many black screen issues with the sound hz lowered. I get it in the dawn to day textures.

So then there must be something with the sounds that PMDG has and the way they have them programmed. What about changing the quality of the sounds themselves?

This topic is so large it is hard to track.I fixed my issue by right clicking on the FSX shortcut go to properties and select the compatibility tab, put a check mark in disable visual themes.Anybody else try this?I am on driver 182.5 with correct version and settings of Enhancer. I have not had a black or white screen for many months

Has anyone tried renaming fsx.exe?Perhaps some specific code in both video card drivers is having an effect on flight simulator x. Try renaming fsx.exe it to another game such as halo.exe or UT3.exe, etc. and see if you get the same results.Good Luck :(John
