Black/disappearing textures? Some bizarre news ...

Could someone tell me which sound component I need to reduce the frequency on? The speaker icon allows me to reduce down to telephone quality, but not the digital audio icons. Thanks!

Gary,Re CSOD problem......I noticed that my version (FSX Acceleration) is 10.0.61637.0 .Yours is 10.0.61472.Could this be a factor in the CSOD problem??I have also uninstalled and re-installed the 182.50 drivers using Driver sweeper and nHancer as per NickN - same problem.I have also uninstalled and re-installed the latest drivers using Driver sweeper and nHancer as per NickN - same problem.I also get the problem with or without FSInn running. If I just stay in full screen mode (or windowed mode) at all times the problem doesn't arise, but it is unrealistic never to get out of full screen mode during a long flight. Also windowed mode has problems with the jaggies - full screen is by far the best.Perhaps it is time for a change to the latest ATI cards.Has anyone with ATI cards on XP64 experienced the CSOD??Pete
Pete I do not use Acceleration and doubt that is source of problem but that would explain difference in our version.I use FSINN and often suspected it as source of problem do you have versions 1.7 and 1.3? If not those are the versions you should be running. try reinsatlling them.Did you find out if you have SP2 on XP-64? Make sure light bloom is off. When I get really frustated I delete the FSX cfg file and let it build a new one.Did you back off your clock?Update your sound drivers?Run Registry repair tool http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=libraryEnsure you have net frame 3.5 installed.Install latest version FSUIPCI am lost Pete. When I get lost I reformat my harddrive using a disk wipper first and I do not dual boot. Your call. If that doesn't fix it you may have a bad video card.

Gary thanks for the reply.I am pretty sure I had SP2 on XP 64 as the contents of the disk have a file which refers to SP2 in its name. The rest of the list I will go through in time and report back. The obvious problem with all this "stabbing in the dark" is that if I could get it working, I would be at a loss to recreate it if I had to do a fresh install of XP64 & FSX.Thanks,Pete

Update:I have reinstalled FSInn with latest versions.I have .Net framework 3.5 SP1 installed.Light bloom is off.I have deleted the fsx.cfg file and let it build a new one, updated sound drivers, run registry repair tool, installed latest FSUIPC.I have returned the bios to stock standard - no overclock.I still get the CSOD although it takes more Alt-Enters to get it and it is more, though not always, recoverable.Pete

Hi, I seem to have joined this debate late in the day but I too seem to be suffering from the black/missing/flickering textures when flying the PMDG MD-11. I can recreate the issue everytime I fly the original tutorial from EGLL to LSZH. Whenever I land in Zurich and open the FSX Map or other windows, Instant Reply etc, as soon as I return to the sim the cockpit has vanished and all the scenery textures are flashing wildly. I'm unable to recover from this and have to shut down FSX and restart each time, really frustrating.I'm running an i7 920, with 6Gb of Ram, a GTX285 and Vista 64. I'm also using an SB Audigy card. I can't reduce the sound quality below 44khz 16bit so i've been unable to test the theory of reducing sound quality. I also use nHancer 2.5.7 and I've backed off AA to 4xS. I'm using the 195.62 nvidia drivers.Have to say that this is really putting me off FSX as this problem occurs randomly during flights when accessing menus (even the PMDG failure menu) and its soul destroying after investing so much time in setting up a flight etc etc.I never had the problem with my old Q9650 system so I'm wondering whether there's any common link with the Core I7's?Anyways all the best folksRob

Your issue is highly likely related to Vista use not use of i7. I think the cure for you is either switching to XP-64 or reverting to FS9.

Thanks for the swift reply. I was using Vista 64 with my old Q9650 rig and didn't experience the flickering texture issue like i do now with my I7 rig.

I was experiencing similar problem (missing VC textures during Dusk/Night change), and was unable to lower "sound quality" below "44.1khz 16bit - CD quality" through soundcard driver. (Realtek onboard with Win7)For me, it was quite sure that the problem was related to "sound", because when I was flying MD11 without sound (pressing 'Q' key), VC textures were intact at any circumstamce.Cut to the chase, just open FSX.cfg and look for "SOUND_QUALITY=2" under "[sOUND]" section.then modify it to "SOUND_QUALITY=0" (or may be '1'. but I didn't try that number.)If it works, you don't have to wait for new driver that support low sound quality option(and I don't think it'll happen) or buy new soundcard(an uncertain money expense). And it worked for me. Just give it a try...PS. English is not my mother language, and it's my first posting on big, international(?) forum like AVSIM. I hope you understand my main idea.... It's just another "FSX.cfg Tweak"

JooHon I have been using your sound Tweak on the W7 64 side of my machine with good success. I have even tried agitating things by ALT ENTERing several times with the -8i at FSDTs FLL, HNL & JFK. I'll be sure to report back if things change. Thanks for sharing.

Hi there,I had an ASUS GTX 285, an I7 940 3Ghz, 6Go RAM, Win7 64 Ultimate. I had the latest NVidia drivers with Nhancer, and I always had black screens or graphical problems with the B744 and the MD11 with basic sceneries, with or without DX10, with or without light bloom. Now I have changed to an ATI HD4890, with the latest catalyst drivers. I made many flights with the MD11 and the B744, mainly with DX10 and light bloom. For the time being, I don't have the black screen anymore (I cross fingers). My flights were around 2h-3h each. I was online IVAO, with little real traffic, and some traffic from Ultimate Traffic 2 at the same time.Framerates are a little bit lower than with the GTX285, but I prefer that, instead of having a black screen after a 3h flight that ruins your day.

I'm also trying JooHon's fix right now. I tried the MD-11 tutorial flight from EGLL to LSZH again with the sound off using 'Q' and everything worked fine. Once on the ground at LSZH I could view Instant Replays and access all of the Menus without any blank screens/flickering textures.Strange that this problem is in someway linked to the sound but causes graphical glitches. It only happens to me with the PMDG planes, 747 and MD-11. I'd really like to know what their technical/developer guys make of it because it doesn't seem like an isolated problem.I'll let you know how it goes with the Sound Quality set to '0'. the only thing I can notice immediately is that there is a slight popping noise in the background. Still better than flickering scenery I guess. Thanks for the helpRob

I see you are using zero. FWIW, I have sound quality set to 1. Most of the test flights yesterday were of the local variety in demanding scenery areas with the 8i. Today I'll set up something more substantial in duration and report back.

Unfortunately its still not working for me. Just ran my test flight again in the MD-11 from EGLL and LSZH as per the tutorial. This time I had set sound quality to 0 in the CFG file. But when I landed at LSZH I brought up the Map from the Menu, then as soon as I return to the sim the display was corrupted. Interestingly though this time I didn't get flickering, I just ended up with a blue sky, with no clouds, no ground textures and no scenery objects, also the VC has disappeared. Moving to the external view all I could see apart from the blue sky was the external engine casings for the 2 wing engines (tail engine not visible) and the Landing Lights (floating in mid air!). Apart from that everything was missing.I really hope someone from PMDG picks this thread up again as I only get this problem with their planes, and only since I upgraded to a Core i7. I had the exact same Operating System and spec before, just running on a Q9650.Its a real shame as i love the PMDG planes but this is really starting to put me off. I don't think I'd purchase another one until I can solve this problem (or a guru from PMDG helps solve it!)Rob

I still can't go into the menus at all with my new i7 computer, and all the tweaks tried here. But that is OK. if I don't have to go into the menus I can last through a long flight without corruption. Maybe it is just an nvidia thing, and I doubt they care too much about fsx to change something in their drivers.
