Asa + Da Cheyenne = Ctd?

Recommended Posts

I was fortunate enough to get enough Christmas cash to buy both ASA and the Digital Aviation Piper Cheyenne.I played with ASA yesterday, and marvelled at the improvement over default FSX weather. Today I installed the Cheyenne, fired up FSX via ASA, selected the new aircraft, and to my dismay found myself looking at the all too familiar crash dialog followed by the Windows desktop.I say "all too familiar", but this is the first time FSX has ever crashed for me in over two years of owning it, on two different PCs and operating systems, with several third party planes and scenery packages. The Cheyenne works fine by itself, ASA works fine by itself, but together they crash FSX instantly. I've tried varying the order in which I fire things up, but as soon as both of them are loaded I get a crash.Has anyone else found this? Any ideas on how to get around it? Am I just plain unlucky that the first two add-ons I've bought in ages refuse to co-operate? :(Colin

Hi Colin,Merry X-Mas to you :--)I assume there is a problem between the Cheyenne weather radar and ASA.If you want to use the Cheyenne and ASA you have to disable the radar.Go to Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Digital Aviation\DB and rename the folder FP_WXR.It should work!

Thanks David, after a bit of digging I found the same advice over at the REX support forum. It all works fine now. :)Merry Christmas to you too, and to everyone else reading the forums today!Colin

David,I also thank you. As I had the same problem. I uninstalled the Cheyenne. Now I can reinstall it. :( Bill

One issue I encountered with the folder rename temporary workaround is that the folder is apparently needed by the DA Fokker as well (not unsurprisingly as both have a weather gauge). Not having the folder as named seems to crash the Fokker (CTD FSX) when the Fokker is selected. Caught between a rock and a hard place! Etienne
