CanarySim streetlights?

Recommended Posts

See this image of a CanarySim scenery:imgvcol16029.jpgWhat did they use for the street lights? It looks like an object referenced in terrain.cfg, as suggested by Luis Feliz-Tirado on his "Fun with lines" thread here at this forums, but which object? I'm thinking of using something similar for my Bucaramanga photo scenery I've been working on this year.Best regards from Colombia,Luis Miguel

Anyone?I think these lights are probably runway lights. Does anybody know if they are available as a scenery object, and thus, can be used for making a line of lights via Terrain.cfg?Best regards from Colombia,Luis Miguel

Hi Luis:I don't have a CanarySim scenery to test on my own system, but from your screenie above, those look like FS "glowing ball" Effect objects, and as such I don't think they use the built-in FS "landing light" or "taxi light" object display code, and IIUC therefore aren't texture-based "BGL lights" such as, IIRC, are used in the night lights of Ultimate Terrain and certain other add-on scenery packages or add-on scenery library object packages.Effects can be placed with XML code by either manual methods or via certain scenery programs such as FenceBuilder Pro (highly recommended for placing long rows of objects along streets via poly lines at assigned elevations relative to the local ground elevation aka "AGL").http://fsaddon.eu/wpfsaddon/fsaddon-products/http://secure.simmarket.com/fsaddon-fencebuilder-pro.phtmlhttp://www.fsaddon.eu//fsaddon-products/Fe...rt%20Manual.pdfAlternatively one could use the Scenery Design Engine (SDE) component of Scruffyduck's Library Object Manager (LOM), and possibly SBuilder for FS9 or SBuilderX, but these would likely place objects individually which could be laborious.LOM (with SDE) For FS9:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&DLID=86287Also needed:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&DLID=89228LOM (SDE) For FSX:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...amp;DLID=101687PS: Certainly the thread "Fun With Lines" by Luis Feliz-Tirado ("LFT") is a very informative tutorial on alternative methods with autogen objects that are probably more FPS-efficient too !http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...ith+lines\NOTE: A full version of "Fun With Lines" WITH images is available inside an HTML tutorial via the generosity of LFT and Scenery Hall Of Fame (scenery.org):http://www.scenery.org/_downloads/bgtsDesign.zipBTW: Most of the "Terrain.cfg" modifications referenced in the LFT lines tutorial above have subsequently been made available via a "FS X modified terrain.cfg" provided as a courtesy to the FS Community through cooperative efforts of LFT and Richard Ludowise aka "Rhumbaflappy":http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&DLID=93289Hope this helps get you started with placement of "Effect"-based street lights ! :( GaryGB

Thanks, Gary, for the reference. I seem to remember having placed the "Fun with lines" document in the Avsim tutorial section - just click on the Tutorials link at the top of this page to get there. Also, the new SBuilderX (version 3.13) will place any object from a library in a line, so if those lights are in a bgl, then SBuilderX can be used to, first, open the library and determine the objects within, second, add the desired objects to an SBuilderX list for placement, and finally, draw a line and select the desired object which will display at each point in the line. Pretty easy to use. Unfortunately, Luis S

Thanks for that heads up, Luis (LFT), I found the "Fun With Lines" Tutorial here at AVSIM as well: :( http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?autocom...&article=14

Again, thanks for making me aware of that capability in SBuilderX; I'll make a more concerted effort to become aware of SBuilderX's new features ! :(Regards,GaryGB
